Three Speeches that Inspired Me

it is indeed a pleasure for me to write about the three speeches in this world and how to get the benefits of it and ignore the drawbacks.

There are three speeches which had motivated me in my life. The First speech is from the best innovator and designer, the world had ever seen? You might have guessed. Yes, Steve Jobs.

No one had inspired me more than Steve Jobs. It is not for his innovations or contributions to technology but his spirit to ignore the odds and only concentrate on success. In his speech in Stanford, he tells three stories.

First is about connecting dots. He says and I quote. The best thing he learned was calligraphy. Do you know what is calligraphy? He dropped out of college since he was not sure what is gaining from college. He continued to stay there to learn his interest. So instead of regular lesson, he took a course on calligraphy. It is an art of decorative handwriting or handwritten lettering. He says Macintosh and Windows (since windows copied Mac) have got rich fonts for these sessions he took in college.

Second Story was about Love and Life. He talks about his oust from his own company. He takes that incident in a positive way. For that, he started Pixar which produced movies like Finding Nemo and Next Computer. He joined back with all this learning and success.

The Last story is about death. It was when cancer affected him, he realized his life was short. He started his day with a question, “What would I do you do if today is the last day?”. Though, eventually he succumbed to death, do you think his legacy will ever be forgotten? No!

Similarly, another leader who inspired me, Sheryl Sandberg. COO of Facebook. She in her speech at the university of Berkeley, explains how she fought against her husband’s death and became a successful leader. She says and I quote.

“It’s the hard days — the days that challenge you to your core — that determine who you are. You will be defined not just by what you achieve, but how you survive,” she continued.

Sandberg discussed how, by experiencing great despair, she could find a deeper gratitude for life. “I hope you live your life — each precious day of it — with joy and meaning,” she said. “I hope you walk without pain and are grateful for each step. And when the challenges come, I hope you remember that deep within you is the ability to learn and grow.”

There will be challenges in life and if you think what stopping you from moving forward you will never win. Stop, think and ask yourselves this question, what would be the worst thing that could happen to you. Then move forward.

Third and last speech is from Dr Abdul Kalam. His every speech, every interview and his life itself is an inspiration of every human being in this world. One of this memorable speech in European union Parliament he emphasizes three aspects.

1. Evolution of enlightened society – for evolving a citizen with value system and leading to prosperous and peaceful world. We should grow beyond caste, creed, religion, movie star worships and be a good patriot and good human being.

2. Leading to Energy Independence – A three-dimensional approach for energy choice towards realizing clean planet earth. He always emphasized on clean energy and there by a clean and sustainable planet.

3. World Knowledge Platform – for synergizing the core competence of European Union and India in certain areas for providing solutions to critical issues like water, health care and capacity building. He is a leader who never let his team fail or a person who shares his success with fellow men and blames all by himself. He urges the world to help our country progress. He is an inspirer and if you didn’t find a motivator in him, I am sure that you will never fill.

There are more such leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Swami Vivekananda, Life of Jesus Christ, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors, PM Narendra Modi, list of inspiring people goes endless. It is our responsibilities learn the good things’ from the person we meet and ignore the wrong.

There are so many technologies you should start learning. There are so many opportunities. Instead of being a bookish engineer, try learn practical things. You are going to compete the world once you are out of this college and then you will realize the heat. So realize it today, realize the need to grow and Good Luck to all of you.
